The story begins

With a May flower

“Ours is a story of great loves, and it is reflected in a picture that does not sum it up, but brings it together. It is May 3 a few years ago, after taking a wrong turn we stop the car to take a picture of a May flower.”
Giovannella takes the photo, Joseph looks at a property in the distance and says aloud that one day he would like to have a farm just like that. Neither of them knew that day that they had stopped at the foot of the roots of a tree blooming just before the place that would become their shelter.

THE SENSE OF PLACES

The sense of places, the feeling of places, the soul of places are constructed in their emotional supersense in relation to corners of the world embedded in a given time, in a changing landscape, in a history.

“Our history has crossed the deep and resilient roots of a cherry tree, which adapt to a soil by scouring its depth. One must be able to seize the opportunities that life offers and then as with every plant, every living thing, take care of it. And care is patience.”

"Ours are two lives that do not meet at once

who travel by making connections and are find themselves through the profession of both, in a kiss."

Giovannella was born in Naples and Giuseppe in Locorotondo, but it will take time for their lives to meet, finding themselves in the green countryside of the Itria Valley.
At that point it is dreams and needs that need to make room for themselves, and when Giuseppe wonders where to find himself after a life of globetrotting ingenuity, the Itria Valley is the answer.

It is the irresistible call of roots in a man who wants to grow from a seedling into a tree and leave an imprint.
And that is how that white building that struck Joseph on May 3 will become Masseria Battaglini. Giovannella, in turn, becomes progressively attached to this land where she feels welcomed, loved and safe and reciprocates the feeling by finding the best of herself to offer.

"IT IS A VERY INTENSE RELATIONSHIP THAT I EXPERIENCE, IT IS THE TRANSLATION OF A DREAM AND THE APPLICATION OF THE STRONG SENSE OF FAMILY THAT I HAVE."

Indeed, Giovannella is her father in the working life that he was, her mother in the joy of cooking, her grandmother in storytelling, and her daughters in welcoming. With Joseph, she discovers that what she does best is to care for each other.

“Prolonged, deep, attentive, loving glances are needed. We like the little there is, this slow flow.”

Care is a word thick with meaning; it is thoughtfulness, caring, attention, regard, love. Caring also has a living meaning in the practical sphere, it accommodates all the care needed in the relationship between man and plants, man and animals, man and food in the world they share. Care is love accepting. Caring means having care for people, for relationships, for connections. Care is also knowing how to come to terms with pain.

Our history does not ends with us

Love is like a small Plant, it must be tended every day

This story of ours of roots and land has not been easy, a winding path, but we have fought to win this corner of paradise and make it so for the guest.

Ours is a place that tells of others; we are constitutively the place where we were born and raised; we are the places we have inhabited; we are the places we have dreamed of and longed for; and we are also places we have fled from and sometimes hated, out of an urgency to exist outside and beyond the known perimeter.

We share our story, our reality, with the intention of giving you a taste of this happiness of ours.

Masseria Battaglini is a set of relationships, between us and those who wish to find refuge and a smile. It is the place where slow life sets the pace for happiness, giving us time to cultivate it and then offer it.

COOKING IS LIKE LOVING.

It is through one story told well that the whole can be considered: our great loves speak of all. That is why our story does not end with us, love is like a small plant, it has to be tended every day, we learned it among ourselves and it is in our Masseria that we made it concrete.

Our story speaks and continues with you.
